Well, the doctor's appointment I had scheduled today was cancelled - rescheduled for Jan. 6. It wasn't a "big one" (i.e. no ultrasound), but I was looking forward to going anyway. I was anxious to see the results of my glucose screening test, though I assume they're fine since the nurse didn't call (which she said she would if there was a problem). I was also curious to see what my weight gain was since the last appointment. It's got to be impressive after all the eating I've been doing over the holiday break!
Speaking of which, our Christmas this year was a good one. It was the first one Scott and I have had at home since we got married. It isn't quite the same not having family around - but that said, we did manage to have a lot of fun. We cooked, shopped, saw friends, caught some movies, and just enjoyed spending time together. We're headed to a dinner party on New Year's Eve...and on New Year's Day we're going to the Rose Bowl! Should be fun to see how a 7 1/2 month pregnant woman handles the stadium and the crowds.
Nursery Update: The room has been cleared and taped, and is ready to be painted. Scott also completed his first "daddy duty" - installing a custom shelving unit in the baby's closet. It looks great! I washed all her clothes and they're all hanging up in there on tiny hangers. It's so cute! I should take a picture, but since the closet is also being used as storage while we paint, it's not very photogenic at the moment. I also washed all the bedding and blankets we've received so far, and finally ordered the crib. We already have the changing table, side table, drapes and rug, so the last items we still need to buy are the glider and bookshelf. I think I'll wait until we're closer to getting the room finished before ordering them though.
Guest House Update: The storage container arrived today, so the next 2 weekends will be spent clearing everything out of the garage and into the storage unit. It shouldn't be too bad since almost everything is already in boxes. The contractor starts in early January so we need to make sure he has a completely empty space to work in!Comments:Add a comment:

We've discovered something funny about the baby lately - it appears that she has chosen a favorite "nook" in my belly where she likes to take her naps. A few times last week I noticed a bump sticking out - a little noggin-shaped protrusion resting just below and to the left of my belly button. Scott and I both felt it and determined it was without a doubt her head! I started seeing that bump in the same spot several times a day and realized it was only there when I wasn't feeling any movement. It's her new sleep spot! It makes me smile to think of her all cozied up in there, napping away.
It was already getting pretty comical how predictable her movements have become: 7am, 11am, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm, and 10pm, give or take 30 minutes either way. (I'm sure she's up in the middle of the night too, but I'm not awake enough to notice any pattern.) I can practically set my watch by her! But now that we know she has a regular nap spot too...it just cracks us up. She's like a little old man - a tiny creature of habit, just like her daddy. :) Won't it be funny if she stays that way once she's on the outside too?Comments:Add a comment:

Today I had my 27 week checkup and glucose screening test. Everything is going great! My belly is measuring right on schedule: 27 centimeters corresponding with 27 weeks of pregnancy. The dr. checked the baby's heartbeat and that was great too - as usual she had to chase my silly little girl around to find it. And, I actually LOST a pound since the last appointment! I was quite surprised at that, and a bit concerned - now is certainly not the time to be losing weight. But the dr. said because both belly and baby are growing so well, losing a pound is nothing to be concerned about - and that I could DOUBLE the weight I've gained so far and still be in the normal range! But she said I was in no danger of doing so, although she does think I'll start gaining more once I hit the 30-week mark. I'll just keep up my routine of walking and prenatal yoga and hope that things don't spiral wildly out of control now that I'm entering my 3rd trimester.
The 3rd trimester! How did time pass so quickly?

This weekend I experienced one of the greatest perks of pregnancy in the greater Los Angeles area: Expectant Mother Parking! Marked by two pink lines (how cute!) and a big sign, it was the best parking spot in the mall - the coveted area next to the main escalators. It definitely came in handy during my four (yikes!) trips to the car to drop off shopping bags.
During this shopping spree I also eliminated (once and for all) my "lack of layette" fear. In between shopping for other people, I stopped at almost every baby store I saw to look at things for Baby Girl Boecker. In addition to the basics I ordered last week, she now has a coming home outfit, an Easter outfit, a post-Baptism outfit, and (my favorite) a little pink onesie that says "I Heart Daddy". I had it wrapped as a gift and gave it to Scott when he got home from his trip. It's the sweetest thing!
I also registered us for the Hospital Orientation and Tour, an Infant and Child CPR class, and a Baby Care class. Now I just need to schedule a Lamaze and Breastfeeding class. My cousin used and recommended a woman who gives private Lamaze classes in your home - she's also a lactation consultant. I like the idea of the one-on-one focus, and having someone I'm familiar with who is just a phone call away if I need her.
And, I completed my registries at BabyCenter and Pottery Barn Kids. (If you see anything I've forgotten, please let me know!) It's been a busy few days, but I'm feeling a lot better and much more prepared!

At almost 26 weeks pregnant, I think the infamous "nesting instinct" is finally upon me. Lately I have been plagued with the thought that we are not far enough along in our "baby preparedness" as we should be - and have this almost uncontrollable urge to start getting things ready. For example: I have a checklist of recommended layette items and looking at it the other day I realized it was distressingly UN-checked! So this morning I ordered a bunch of baby clothes from BabyStyle: sleepers, long and short-sleeve onesies, t-shirts, and hats. Nothing fancy, just some basics that will put my mind at ease once they are washed and put away.
Scott is mildly concerned about this sudden nesting urge. He's going out of town tomorrow with some friends for the weekend and is worried about what he'll find when he comes home. His words exactly: "If I come home Sunday and my office is painted yellow and in shambles, you're in big trouble". How did he know I was secretly thinking about doing that?? His concern was that I would lose steam halfway through the project - or worse, wouldn't, and end up exhausted and/or straining myself. Both are strong possibilities, given that I've done the same thing many times on various other house projects, even in my un-pregnant state.
So I guess I'll have to find a less strenuous project to do this weekend. Any ideas? I never did get that closet organizer set up in the baby's room - that would probably be a good place to start. At least then I'll have a place to put all those new clothes I ordered today!Comments:Add a comment:
